Procrastinator

Today ran away from me, I know not where it went,
It was early morning last I looked, and now the days all spent.
Many chores I had and plans I’d made, so much work to do,
Writing, laundry, cook and clean… the weekly shopping too.
A trip to the mall, but Asda first, we are running low on bread,
Meat and veg and salad too, Himself needs to be fed.
A wedding present to be bought, I knew just what to get,
All written neatly on my list in case I just forget.
First, though I’d Garden a bit, it was a bright and sunny day,
Went outside in my wellies and gloves, got distracted on the way.
By the birds who sat looking at me, and spring bulbs pushed up ground,
So, in I came looking for bread, which of course I never found.
The phone rang instead, it was my mum, we chatted for a while,
I thought I’d go walking then, do my usual mile.
The wellies came off, trainers at hand, I found that broken shoe,
Heel’s come off, I’ll fix it now, where is the wretched glue?
It’s time for lunch; I take my soup and settle to the news,
Flicking channels, I watch on blithely, forgetting the heel that’s loose.
Gosh, was that the time, I need to go, the shops will all close soon,
But, oh, Queen’s playing on the radio, I’m Gaga over that tune.
I’ve to put to words the song I wrote, the lines are in my head,
Sit at the laptop and start to type, but my mind then goes quite dead.
Had to write a poem too, for my Monday Writing group,
Needs to be light, can’t be trite, to give them all the scoop.
But the mind’s gone blank, I cannot think, I’m going to call it a day,
Let’s see what the morrow brings, if I find some words to say.
No atoms were split, no dragons slayed, nothing really got done,
My ironing basket still overflows… oh that’s going to be such fun.
The ‘To Do’ list stares balefully back as I switch off my bedside light,
I’ll deal with you tomorrow I say, for now, it’s good night!
