Lying flat on our backs under the Milky Way
Half asleep I hear you say
‘We love it here, shall we stay
back in Africa, warm every day?’
I love my life with you, my dear
This mad adventure, this world out here
‘But now’ I say, ‘I’m crystal clear
Our recipe for life, moves up a gear.’
‘The next ingredient is roots,’ I said
‘I’m tired of travelling for bed and bread.
And when I see what lies ahead
It’s a home to live in, till we are dead.’
‘Marriage is a gamble, don’t they say?
But we hit jackpot, together that day
ten years ago, and now, I pray
we settle somewhere along the way.’
Like butter and flour, we mix so well
But sugar is needed, to make it swell
There is something missing, can’t you tell?
That one ingredient to make us gel.
‘Let’s leave behind this life so wild
Let’s build a home, with roof and tiles
In a brave new world, civilised and mild.
Because what we need, we need a child!’

I do not read much poetry because it was rammed down my throat at school. However I enjoyed these poems very much.
Clearly Eastwood Writers has opened a rich vein for you. I am pleased that others, too, are now reading your work. May you go from strength to strength.
